Some places just get all of a sudden a travel hotspot in a country overnight – mostly due to a few Instagrammers. The palm tree rope swing at Dalawella Beach is one of them.
Dallawella Beach is no longer a secret – but it still took us some research to find out the name and the exact location of this amazing beach.
If you´re staying in Unawatuna (what most of the people do) just get yourself a tuk-tuk and the driver will know where to drop you off. Once you are at Dalawella Beach the exact location is actually in front of a guesthouse called Dream Cabana.
The guys working at Dream Cabana built the swing for fun for themselves and now it´s one of the most talked about spots in Sri Lanka. However, many tourists come and do not pay attention on the rest of the beach. Sure, the swing is super photogenic, but if you stay, you will have the whole beach for yourself. It´s not the best beach for swimming due to the rocks but it´s so calm and beautiful there, it´s absolutely worth it to spend some hours there. I heard there should be many turtles in the beach – but we weren´t that lucky.
If I were to visit this part of the island again I would definitely stay in the Dalawella beach area as opposed to the main Unawatuna beach stretch.
Manche Orte werden über Nacht berührt und das oft durch nur einen einzigen Post eines Instagrammers. So auch die Schaukel an der berühmten Palme am Dalawella beach. Der Strand in Dalawella ist schon lange kein Geheimnis mehr – aber wir brauchten doch einige Zeit bis wir den richtigen Namen und den exakten Ort herausfanden. Falls ihr in Unawatuna übernachtet, dauert es nur ungefähr fünf Minuten bis ihr mit einem Tuk-Tuk zum Strand gelangt. Der Fahrer sollte den Ort kennen. Die exakte Lage befindet sich direkt hinter dem Hostel „Dream Cabana“. Die Hostelmitarbeiter haben vor ein paar Jahren ein Seil an der Palme befestigt, einzig und allein für ein bisschen Spaß. Dass daraus so schnell ein Touristenmagnet wurde, hätten sie selber nicht gedacht. Viele Touristen kommen allerdings nur an den Strand um ein paar Fotos zu schießen und gehen wieder. Wenn man aber bleibt, hat man den Strand teilweise ganz für sich alleine und das lohnt sich. Der Strand und das Wasser bieten zwar nicht die besten Schwimmbedingungen aufgrund der vielen Felsen im Wasser aber es ist schön ruhig hier und anscheinend hat man manchmal Glück ein paar Wasserschildkröten zu sehen. Würde ich nochmal in dieser Ecke Sri Lankas einige Tage verbringen, würde ich definitiv in der Dalawella Gegend bleiben – allein die Häuser/Hotels, die man vom Strand aus sah waren ein Traum!
