Kaikoura – this village located on the east side directly on the pacific has a special place in my heart. For two reasons: First of all, the fascinated places, view points and experiences it offers and second for the pure happiness I felt during the days here. As I was travelling alone, Kaikoura was my third stop on my solo-trip. I didn´t expect it at all to like this village that much, but for the first time I felt so content with travelling on my own. I started to love going wherever I wanted, to go for a walk bymyself and to eat in my own company. I felt this unique calmness and inner peace as nowhere else on my trip. Kaikoura taught myself so much and changed my mind in a positive mind. This was the main reason I love Kaikoura – but I experienced three amazing things here as well.
Kaikoura - ein kleines, süßes, zuerst unscheinbares Dorf am Pazifik hat einen ganz besonderen Platz in meinem Herzen. Aus zwei Gründen: Erstens, die wunderschönen Orte, Ausblicke und Erlebnisse, die sich in dieser Stadt verstecken und zweitens für das pure Glücksgefühl, das mir Kaikoura geschenkt hat. Während ich alleine durch Neuseeland reiste, war Kaikoura der dritte Stop auf meiner Solo-Reise. Geplant war dieses Dorf nur als kurzer Zwischenstopp auf meinem Weg nach Christchurch, doch Kaikoura hielt mich fest und zog mich in den Bann. Ich begann mich sicher, zufrieden und glücklich zu fühlen mit dem Gefühl alleine zu reisen. Ich begann es zu lieben hinzugehen, wohin ich wollte, einen Spaziergang allein zu machen oder nur in meiner Gesellschaft zu essen. Ich fühlte diese unglaubliche innere Zufriedenheit und Ruhe wie selten zuvor. Kaikoura hat mir selbst so viel gelehrt- über mich, das Alleinreisen und die Kombination aus beidem. Das ist der Hauptgrund warum dieses Dorf für immer meine Nummer 1 in Neuseeland bleiben wird. Dooooch, ich habe dort ebenfalls drei unglaublich schöne Dinge erlebt, die ich mit Euch teilen möchte.
1. Sea colony
As I was wondering along the sea, I was actually looking for some Paua shells. When all of he sudden I stood in front of a sea lion which I was sleeping on the pier. I didn´t expect this at all, but when I looked around, I realized I was standing in the middle of a whole sea colony! It was such an unreal experience. Info: You will find the colony right at the end of the Fyffe Quay.
Plus: A friend from the hostel took me one morning to a secret spot and didn´t tell me what to expect. Even better was the moment when I was standing right in front of a waterfall with baby sea lions playing in the water beneath!
Während ich an einem Morgen am Meer entlang spazierte, über all die Felsen kletterte und eigentlich auf der Suche nach den berühmten Paua Muscheln war, stand ich urplötzlich vor einem Seelöwen, der sich auf einem Steg sonnte! Damit hatte ich absolut nicht gerechnet, bis ich realisierte, dass ich mich inmitten einer riesigen Seelöwenkolonie befand. Ein absolut unreales Erlebnis.
Info: Die Seelöwenkolonie befindet sich am Ende des "Fyffe Quay."
Plus: Eines Morgens nahm mich eine Freundin aus dem Hostel zu einem "Secret Spot" ohne mir annähernd zu verraten wohin wir gehen würden. Umso besser war der Augenblick in dem ich vor einem Wasserfall stand in dessen Wasser Baby-Seelöwen badeten!
2. Costal walk
After the unexpected meetup with the sea lions, I found a sign referring to the Peninsula walkway. I decided to follow the track for a few hundred meters to at least see a bit when I ended up walking for 4 hours! This has to show how beautiful this walk was!
Nach meinem unerwarteten Treffen mit den Seelöwen, fand ich ganz in der Nähe ein Schild, dass auf den "Peninsula walkway" verwies. Aus Neugierde beschloss ich dem Track für einige Meter zu folgen um wenigstens einen Blick auf die Küste werfen zu können. Schlussendlich wanderte ich für 4 Stunden den ganzen Track. Allein das muss bezeugen, wie wunderschön dieser Küstenweg ist!
3. Swimming with dolphins
No understatement, this experience is definitely one of the TOP 3 BEST THINGS I EVER DID! It was a once in a life-time experience.
I booked a trip on the internet and after a short briefing we went out with the boat on the open sea. After around 20 minutes the captain stop the boot and they informed us that there might be around 70 dolphins around us in the water, but we couldn´t spot any. It was time to get into the water and as I was so excited and curious, I was the first one to jump into the water. I remember this moment so exactly: I was sitting at the edge of the boat with a wetsuit on putting my mask on, when they gave me the command to jump! I jumped, ditched into the water and first of all couldn´t breathe because the water was so damn cold! However, second, I stopped breathing for a second because I was so flashed about what was in front of me. Heaps and heaps of dolphins where swimming around me, I could have only put my hand out to touch them so close were they. Pretty funny was, as the team taught us, to “play” with the dolphins and to get their attention. For example to swim in circles or make some “whale noises” (as in Finding Nemo) so they start swimming around me. These face to face moments are in my head as it was yesterday and I still get goosebumps when I think about this experience.
Sadly, I lost all the videos but these moments stay in my mind forever.
Ohne jegliche Übertreibung, dieses Erlebnis ist definitiv eines DER BESTEN 3 DINGE, DIE ICH JEMALS ERLEBT HABE! Ein absolut einmaliges Erlebnis!
Nach einem kurzen Briefing an Land, ging es in etwa 20 Minuten mit dem Boot auf den offenen Pazifik. Der Kapitän informierte uns, dass sich rund um das Boot angeblich über 70 Delfine aufhielten, die man bis dato aber nicht sehen konnte. Es wurde Zeit ins Wasser zu springen und meine Neugier trieb mich an und so sprang ich direkt als Erste ins Wasser. Im ersten Moment allerdings konnte ich nicht atmen, da das Wasser im Winter trotz Neoprenanzug unfassbar kalt war! Im nächsten Moment stockte mir allerdings der Atem, weil ich so beeindruckt war von dem was ich sah! Ich befand mich inmitten eines Scharms unzähliger, wilder Delfine! Ich hätte nur meine Hand ausstrecken müssen um sie zu berühren, so nah waren sie mir. Sie schwammen in Kreisen um mich, sprangen aus dem Wasser und bewegten sich schneller als ich ihnen folgen konnte. Das lustigste an der Sache war, mit den Delfinen auf eine Art zu "spielen" um ihre Aufmerksamkeit zu bekommen. Zuvor lernten wir, wie wir selbst in Kreisen schwimmen konnte, woraufhin die Delfine uns folgten oder "Walgeräusche" (wie in Findet Nemo) von sich zu geben, damit die Delfine uns als einen Art Spielkameraden sahen und dicht bei uns blieben.
Diese von-Angesicht-zu-Angesicht-Momente mit den Delfinen sind so fest in meinem Kopf verankert als hätte ich sie gestern erlebt. Ich bekomme immer noch Gänsehaut wenn ich an diese Momente denke.
Leider habe ich all meine Videos von diesem Erlebnis verloren, aber in meinem Kopf bleiben sie für immer.
