My favorite viewpoint in Hawaii!
Den absolut schönsten Ausblick auf meiner ganzen Hawaii–Reise erlebte ich hier! Eine einfache Wanderung führt hinauf zu den Pillboxen, von denen aus man einen unvergleichlichen Ausblick auf den Ozean, die Küste und im Rücken die Ko’olau mountains hat. Eine Kulisse an der man sich kaum sattsehen kann. Diese Aussicht sollte definitiv auf jeder Oahu bucket list stehen!
The most stunning view I´ve witnessed on my whole Hawaii trip was definitely here! A quick trail takes you up a hill and offers you breathtaking views over the ocean, two little islands, the coastline and the Ko’olau mountains in the back. A view which remains in my thoughts for a long time and which definitely should be on everyone´s Oahu bucket list !
Von Honolulu aus fährt man ungefähr 45 Minuten bis nach Lanikai, mit dem Bus dauert es ca. doppelt so lange. Angekommen in Lanikai, dauert der Trail ungefähr 30 Minuten. Sicher bietet der Weg nicht die besten und einfachsten Bedingungen zum Wandern, aber es schaut definitiv schwieriger aus als es tatsächlich ist. Der erste Teil des Pfades beginnt direkt mit einem sehr steilen Stück, das lediglich auf rutschigem Dreck aufbaut. Der restliche Weg ist etwas steinig, aber sehr einfach zu meistern.
Starting at Honolulu, it takes about 45 minutes by car and the double amount of time by bus, which is easily possible! Arrived in Lanikai, the trail takes around 30 minutes to get to the top. It offers for sure not the best conditions for hiking but it looks way harder than it is! It´s absolutely beginner friendly even when the first part is a steep slope on a base of slippery dirt. The rest of the trail is still a bit rocky, but pretty simple to conquer.
Die erste Pillbox erreicht man bereits nach kurzer Zeit. Auf dem Weg nach oben bekommt man schon einen Vorgeschmack auf die unglaubliche Aussicht, die einen ganz oben erwarten wird. Angekommen übertraf die Aussicht aber jegliche meiner Erwartungen. Vor uns der weite Blick auf den offenen, hellblauen Ozean, dessen Bild mit zwei kleinen Inseln getoppt wurde. Davor Lanikai mit einem der schönsten Strände Hawaiis, Lanikai Beach. Ein atemberaubend schöner Blick auf die Ostküste Oahus. Und sei das noch nicht genug, muss man sich nur einmal umdrehen und blickt auf die riesigen wild bewachsenen Ko’olau mountains. Ein absoluter Gänsehautmoment - in dem einem wieder einmal bewusst wird, was für wunderschöne Orte diese Welt zu bieten hat.
Und diese Aussicht kann man auf einer der Pillboxen ist vollen Zügen genießen. Dabei die Füße baumeln zu lassen während man auf die Küste hinabblickt, macht den Augenblick perfekt.
You will arrive at the first pillbox after a short time. On the way up, you can catch some first insights about the stunning view which will await you on the top. Arrived, this view really exceeded all of my expectations. Ahead of us the view over the wide-open ocean with two little islands. In front, Lanikai with one of the most beautiful beaches of Hawaii, Lanikai Beach. A breathtaking view over the coastline of Oahu. And if that wouldn´t be enough, if you turn around, you will look directly onto the wild vegetated Ko’olau mountains. Such a goosebumps’ moment, when once again you realize how many stunning places our world offers.
This view can be enjoyed on top of one of the pillboxes. Letting your legs dangle from the edge while looking down on the coastline, makes this moment just pure and perfect.
Anschließend kann man den Trail noch etwas weiter gehen oder verbringt den restlichen Tag direkt am Lanikai Beach oder besucht Kailua Beach, Waimanalo Beach oder den etwas ruhigeren Alan Davis Beach.
Afterwards, you have the option on following the track for a while or relax at the Lanikai Beach for the day or visit Kailua Beach, Waimanalo Beach or the quieter Alan Davis Beach.
